Volunteer Board Members Needed – Lethbridge – Wellness Through Living

1) Chairperson
10- 15 Hours monthly.
The Chairperson shall preside at all membership meetings, including annual general meeting, special meetings of the general membership, monthly board meetings, and executive meetings.
The Chairperson shall by virtue of their office be Chair of the Board of Directors.
The Chairperson shall call meetings of the board and the executive committee.
The Chairperson shall possess and apply leadership qualities that support and defend the business of the Society.
The Chairperson shall guide the activities of the Board of Directors leading to the establishment and ongoing refinement of the Society’s operational policies and strategic planning process.
The Chairperson shall take specific direction from the Board of Directors.
The Chairperson shall appoint all committees, standing or ad-hoc.
The Chairperson shall be an ex-officio member of all committees struck by the Board of Directors.
The Chairperson shall lobby and liaise on behalf of the Society with elected and unelected government officials, regional and community-based non-government organizations, and the public at large.
The Chairperson shall be an official spokesperson and representative for the Society, unless directed otherwise by the Board of Directors.
The Chairperson shall communicate regularly with the Executive Director of the Society regarding day-to-day business of the Society.
The Chairperson shall see all books, reports, and certificates required by law are properly kept or filed.
The Chairperson must be one of the officers who sign the cheques or drafts for the Society.
The Chairperson shall have such powers as may be reasonably construed as belonging to the chief executive of any organization.
The Chairperson shall ensure that structures and procedures are in place for securing the resources required by the Society. Depending upon the Society, this may require the Chairperson to play a leadership role in fundraising campaigns.
2) Vice-Chairperson (1 Opening):
10- 15 Hours monthly.
Carries out duties of the Chair in absence of the Chair.
Possesses signing authority.
Voting privileges on each board committee.
Provides leadership for the board.
Attend fundraising events that are held.
Maintains and ensures operation within the bylaws.
Encourages the board’s role and participation in strategic planning.
Performs duties necessary to promote the success of events if other directors are unable to accomplish tasks.
Carries out other duties assigned by the board.
3) Treasurer (1 Opening):
10- 15 Hours monthly
Maintains accurate and complete financial records.
Supervises spending monies including primary signing authority.
Assists auditor in preparation of financial statements.
Renders monthly financial statements to the board of directors.
Presents the financial reports of the Society to the board of directors and the annual
meeting
Files the annual return, changes in the directors of the organization, amendments in the
bylaws and other incorporating documents with the Corporate Registry.
Holds the position of Chair of the Finance and Fundraising Committees
Carries out other duties assigned by board
4) Secretary (1 Opening):
10- 15 Hours monthly
Prepares and preserves the minutes of all meetings of the Society.
Distributes minutes of the previous meeting prior to the meeting.
Maintains custody of minutes.
May possess signing authority, to be used only if the Chair or Vice-Chair is unavailable to sign.
Maintains records and minute book of society, including registry of board members, minutes of board meetings and Annual General Meetings, and the Society bylaws and resolutions.
Authenticates records of the Society.
Maintains accurate membership list.
Carries out other duties assigned by the board.
4) Director-at-Large (4 Openings):
10- 15 Hours monthly
Attend monthly board meetings & annual general meetings.
Attend fundraising events that are held.
Assist committee chairs and members as needed.
Work collaboratively with fellow board members & partners in the community.
Be knowledgeable about Wellness Through Living Society policies, programs & services.
Promote Wellness Through Living Society positively within our community.
Actively seek opportunities to partner and build strategic alliances/partnerships.
Carries out other duties assigned by the board.
Board meetings are held on the first Thursday from 6:30PM- 8:30PM every month. All positions have a term of two- years with the option for re-election after the first term.

Non- Board Volunteer Positions
1) Grant Writer
The Grant Writer will identify new financial sources for our Non-Profit Agency from private, foundation, and corporate donors, as well as government grants.
This position will be responsible for writing grant applications to maximize funding for the organization, track the outcomes of submitted requests, and solicit funding.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Understand the annual fundraising strategy to pursue funding from both prospective and established donors, sponsors, and agencies that are aligned with the organization’s mission.
Research, identify and track open and future grant-fundraising opportunities, and ensure grant submissions and requirements are completed by the established due date.
